Cycling season 2016 ended up so it is an ideal time to evaluate it. To sum it up, it was successful not only for Etixx – Quick – Step. In terms of the number of wins, the Belgium team was the best again. Riders took 54 first, 41 second and 26 third places. Contrary to 2015, they increased the number of places on winners´ podium (52 x first, 36 x second, 24 x third).
Let us evaluate the best races. It is definitely worth highlighting Race GIRO d’Italia where we went to encourage Etixx team personally and we also did through some of race stages. Our experiences can be also read here in the blog: https://www.cycling-info.sk/blog/3575-ako-isli-janomaci-podporit-etixxakov-na-giro-blog
A junior Bob Jungels became the overall winner in the category „under 25“and he was even in the pink jersey over the three stages. In general classification he took first in stages 10, 11 and 12. As is the custom, first stages are flat and in 3rd stage Marcel Kittel wanted to have “his slice of the action” and he also got the pink jersey too. Gianluca Brambilla got the pink one in stages 8 and 9.
Spanish Vuelta was demanding and not to be outdone by tough and hilly stages at all. And riders did handle them too. David de la Crus conquered stage 9 and got the red jersey as the leader and in general classification finished on the excellent 7th place. Gianluca Brambilla won 15th stage.
World Championships – Qatar was definitely the highlight of this season where Etixx riders did really amazing showpieces. They showed off straight in the team time trial where they raced towards the first place without any problems. In the individual time trial a veteran rider Tony Martin showed off, his nickname Panzerwagen is justifiable.
Also this year our company decided to sponsor riders of the Slovak national team on World Championships in Qatar so as to make the best conditions possible. And just right here, a really interesting thing happened. Surely, as everybody knows, Peter Sagan won and became the World champion for the second time. Mark Cavendish placed second, in the past he used to ride for Etixx, and Tom Boonen as a current Etixx rider took third. One might say there is nothing special, but our logo janom accompanied all wins J
For us they were more than victories. As it turned out during Championships and this year, we are sponsoring the best. We are trying to do so not only in sports, but also within all our activities because we are doing them for a better future, for all of us whether via supporting new innovation projects, IT technologies or renewable energies.
