There is no rider who does not know the most famous monument Paris – Roubaix. This year, however, the races were a bit unique. Not only did Zdenek Stybar finish second and he came within an ace of winning, but the races were the last in which Tom Boonen took part. We were all rooting for him to come out victorious from his last races, however, it emerged that only Štybar put on a final sprint for Quick – Step Floors Cycling Team.
We had the honour of being there in person and we can say that the atmosphere was marvellous. Several hours before the peloton arrived, people were waiting to take the best possible positions near the track, even though they saw the riders only for a few seconds. To bid his career farewell, Tom Boonen´s fans had prepared various banners of thanks and went into chanting „ Thank you, Tom“. And Tom, as a really friendly guy, had no problem even before the start and at the finish to take pictures with his fans and to sign autographs. Yet, we still do not know his future plans, but in a few years, we may see him as a sports director of Quick -Step Floors Cycling Team where he spent several years as a great rider.
