Defence and security company Saab and Danubia NanoTech, an advanced materials research company based in Bratislava, Slovakia, have agreed to cooperate in the field of carbon-based nanomaterials Research and Development. The companies will sign a Letter of Intent this week in a first step towards their long-term cooperation.
Technological developments, combined with changing threats, require constant adaptation and innovation. That is why Saab re-invests around a quarter of its annual revenues into R&D. Since 2016 Saab has been discussing the potential of joint R&D with Danubia NanoTech on Graphene materials for different applications in the aerospace and defence sectors.
Danubia NanoTech will now become a Saab partner in carbon-based R&D. Their experienced team has co-authored approximately 700 scientific publications in the research of graphene and carbon nanotubes, and has ownership participation in five patents.
“We are pleased that we are able to take our cooperation with Danubia NanoTech to the next level. We see the company as our long-term partner and we are well aware of the remarkable R&D work they perform in the field of advanced nanomaterials. We believe that our cooperation will contribute to the efficiency and reliability of our products and solutions in the field of aeronautics and ground based weapon systems,“ said Pontus de Laval, Chief Technical Officer of Saab.
“We in Danubia Nanotech believe that long-term cooperation with Saab is an enabler for us to apply our graphene based R&D into real applications and products. We look forward to our cooperation with Saab and to realising the advanced material features we have been working on since 2004,” said Patrik Križanský, Business Development Director of Danubia NanoTech.
“Saab has always maintained that Slovakia has great R&D potential. That is why we are always looking for cooperation opportunities with Slovak companies and institutions. We hope that this is but the beginning of many new great projects in Slovakia,” added Pontus de Laval.
